Food and Wine

The perfect combination of food and wine can turn a simple dinner-date into a romantic one, a small gathering or celebration into a fun-filled and memorable party, virtually any ordinary occasion into an extraordinary event.

There are really no rules to follow in deciding what food to serve and what wine to buy. And, because there are no strict rules, pairing food and wine can indeed be a challenging and difficult task. It requires not only some familiarity with food and wine, but more importantly, some creative thinking.

It would be helpful to remember the basics: white wines are best served when chilled and are perfect with fish, pork or chicken, and red wines are best served with red meats such as grilled beef or lamb. These are not strict rules, however, so you can always reinvent and discover new exciting food and wine combination.

Experts suggest that the weight or taste of the food and wine should complement each other. It?s not good to match very dry and strong wine with sweet food, because the strength of the wine will overwhelm the taste of the food.

It is a known fact that white wines are too acidic, so they are perfectly matched with oily and salty food especially seafood dishes with rich cream sauces. Acid reduces oiliness and saltiness in food. Sweet wines have an acidity of around 1%, while table wines have 0.6 to 0.7 % acidity. Most wines are not sweet and have a strong flavor, so they are best matched with sweet food. Grilled foods that are bitter to the taste match well with a slightly bitter wine ? like a dry red. Wines made of grapes that are grown in colder regions typically have low sugar content and a high acidic content, while those grown in warmer climates are lower in acid and higher in sugar.

If you can?t decide what wine to buy, settle for a sparkling wine. This kind of wine has higher acidity and a delicate taste and is low in alcohol content. It goes go with almost any kind of food.

Learning how to stop drinking is important

Mon, 28 Jul 2008 12:07:25 PDT
by David Peters The addiction is always stronger than the desire to quit. But, it can be done. I did it. I have been sober for thirteen years. I got tired of blackouts and hangovers and acting like someone I’m not when I’m without alcohol. I knew I wanted to stop, but I had no clue how. I went to a twelve step meeting in my church, and kept going everynight to different meetings, for four and a half years. If you let the seriously sober men and women help you, you can beat this addiction. You d

Feeling like Carmen Sandiego… Posted by Bayou on July 25th, 2008 … as in, where in the world am I? My mind has been going in a million different directions lately but I’ve not been able to focus this energy very well. I thought I’d take a cue from my honey and just spit it all out at once so perhaps I can get back into the groove again… The Housewarming Party! Wow, it was just awesome. The draft post that kept running through my head was “Recipe for a perfect housewarming”. Take 30 of your

Yankees Suck?

Bart Simpson has the right idea here, or does he? (SawxBlog Illustration) I read Kevin Cullen's interesting piece yesterday on Boston.com (Enough Already) on what is for better or worst one of the more popular chants throughout New England, "Yankees Suck". We've all seen the "Yankees Suck" t-shirts sold outside of Fenway (I'm more partial to the "Jeter Drinks Wine Coolers" t-shirt because no matter who you root for as a fan, that's pretty damn funny). And if you live in or around Boston you'v

August 2008 - Italian Wine

A Italian Wine Artilce for Your Viewing

Custom Wine Labels

Wine producers and distillers are proud of their product. It is this sense of pride and the hard work and quality of attention they put into their product that makes custom wine labels important to them. Wines are judged not just by the year the grapes used to produce them were harvested, or in what country they come from. Wine connoisseurs look at the vineyard and the quality of grape vine too. These details are found on the wine bottle label.

Traditionally, all wine bottles look the same and are labeled quite the same as well. To those inexperienced at buying wines, the many different varieties of wine on the shelves go unnoticed because they tend to buy their favorite brands.

In today?s globalized economy where products, including wines from all over the world, find their way into local supermarkets, competition has gotten edgier. If you are a wine producer, you need to step up on your marketing strategy. If you cannot modify the look of your glass bottle, as it is harder and more costly to do, you can modify your label. Generic bottles, what glass-packaging manufacturers call them, are mass-produced and are used by a variety of customers that extend beyond wine producers. For example, generic looking wine bottles are used to package olive oil, balsamic vinegar and other premium food ingredients. The trick in making these bottles look different from each other is in the labeling.

There are many labels available for clients who need to identify wine bottles. They include the usual paper labels in a two color-printing scheme, the glossy labels in four colors and shrink-wrapped labeling.

In the world of marketing, products are judged according to their packaging and labels. A customer?s impression of the product starts from how the product is presented on the shelf. An attractive label can often spell success for the product. There are many packaging companies and print houses with designers that offer custom-made wine labels. Check them out and compare prices as well as the scope of services they are willing to give.
