Yesterday, several tons of Zinfandel grapes from a Lodi, Calif., vineyard splashed into the crusher at a winery. Just a normal fall harvest day in wine country, really. Except the crush was at a new winery on Varick Street in lower Manhattan, near the entrance to the Holland Tunnel.

They say the best wines are those stored in a long time in the wine racks. I remember our last summer outing in the wineries where we seen old wine cellars to store their newly made wines. We saw also big barrels and long lines of wine racks. I will never forget this trip because we were able to taste newly produce wines from the well known wineries in that area.

There is a winery located in Brooklyn. No kidding, there really is. They don't grow the grapes here, which I have to think is a good thing. They don't actually make the wine here either - they do that at a contract wine making facility in Mattituck, Long Island.
